Brand New Tokio Hotel feature on cosmo girl

Formerly the group Devilish, Bill, Tom, Gustav, and Georg now make up Tokio Hotel â�” and the uber-cuties from Germany are taking the U.S. by storm! I caught up with them at their recent New York City show at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza (a venue where most rock legends have performed), where the line to get in was hundreds deep and, according to one fan, people were waiting for hours to get a spot in front of the stage.

Hey, guys! It must be really exciting to perform in New York. Do you love the city?

Bill and Georg:
Very! Yeah, we like it, but we love L.A. too, with the warm weather, sunshine, and big houses.

Whatâ�™s the difference between your European fan base and your U.S. one?

Bill:
We were really surprised when we came to North America because we expected it to be different than in Germany. We expected people to be calm, laid-back, and checking us out from a distance. But as soon as we got onstage here, everyone got really excited and started to yell and scream the way we were used to from home. We were really surprised. Having fans like that gives us a lot of power and energy when weâ�™re onstage. We love it! It was such a shock that our shows here are selling out. Itâ�™s more than we ever expected.

Thatâ�™s pretty amazing to be selling out shows here in the U.S. on your first North American tour.

Bill:
Yeah. Weâ�™re so excited.

So tell me, who were your musical influences?

Bill:
We couldnâ�™t find a single common influence.

Tom:
I influenced them all.

Bill, Gustav, Georg:
Ha!

Bill:
We listen to so many different kinds of music. Tom only listens to German hip-hop, but I listen to a lot of rock, so we couldnâ�™t really agree on one band that influenced us. Everyone brought his own style to the group, even if Georg doesnâ�™t have any style [rest of band laughs]. What we created with Tokio Hotel was just our common ground of liking a variety of bands. We wanted that to influence our music.

Howâ�™d you get the name?

Bill:
[Band laughs simultaneously]
The reason everyone laughed is because now youâ�™re getting into the dark past. We used to go by a different name â�“ Devilish, but that was all Billâ�™s idea. To tell you the truth, Devilish didnâ�™t have any meaning. We tried to remember why we chose that name, but couldnâ�™t. When we started to get deals with record companies, we thought it was time to find a name that fits and one we all liked. We love New York and L.A. because theyâ�™re really big cities, and we chose Tokio [the German spelling of Tokyo] because itâ�™s a wicked place. Then we wanted to find a symbol that represented our lives, and we came up with Hotel because weâ�™re living out of hotels these days. Our lives are packed in our suitcases and we always carry them behind us.

How would you describe your personal style?

Gustav:
Well, weâ�™ve got a womanizer, a comedian, a bodyguardâ�¦ [the whole band starts to laugh]. Actually, no, weâ�™re not about rules â�“ we didnâ�™t want to create one image.

Bill:
Yeah, if we had to do that, Georg wouldnâ�™t even be here today [band laughs]. Weâ�™re not about playing any characters â�” weâ�™re just us, just being ourselves. What you see is what you get. If you look at old pictures of us from when we were called Devilish, you will see how everyone started to find his own style. Thatâ�™s what weâ�™re about.

What would your advice be to anyone who wanted to get a start in music?

Bill:
We hate to be in the position of telling people what to do because when we started, people who were older and had been in the business a while would tell us how we should act and what we should do, and we didnâ�™t like that. Everyone has to make their own decisions and go through their own experience â�“ find out for yourself. Everyone has to find their way. The only thing I would say is that itâ�™s important to play live, go onstage, and have fun because thatâ�™s what itâ�™s all about. And itâ�™s important to make mistakes. Thatâ�™s what we did and still do. Georg is still making 10 to 15 mistakes every day [band laughs]. Just do your thing!

Whatâ�™s your favorite thing to do online?

Tom:
[laughing] Iâ�™m not sure you want to know! Actually, I basically check e-mail and watch videos.

Georg:
Yeah, I watch videos. I just watched Scream.

Gustav:
I just watch a video where the filmmakers raced an Audi against a BMW. The BMW won.

Os Tokio Hotel acabam de confirmar a sua presenÃ§a no Rock in Rio-Lisboa. Depois de ter sido anunciada com uma das bandas que compÃµe o cartaz do Rock in Rio Madrid, a banda revelaÃ§Ã£o de 2007 foi solicitada por centenas de fÃ£s que pretendia vÃª-los, tambÃ©m, na Cidade do Rock portuguesa.

A banda alemÃ£ vai subir ao Palco Mundo no dia 1 de Junho, o terceiro dia do maior festival de mÃºsica.

Este jovem quarteto, com apenas trÃªs discos editados, - dois em alemÃ£o ("Schrei", de 2005, e "Zimmer 483", de 2007) e um em inglÃªs ("Scream"), que Ã© uma compilaÃ§Ã£o dos dois Ã¡lbuns editados mas cantado em inglÃªs -, jÃ¡ ganhou alguns dos mais importantes prÃ©mios da mÃºsica e conseguiu chegar ao topo das tabelas de vendas em muitos paÃses.

Para este dia 1 de Junho, Dia Mundial da CrianÃ§a, a entrada Ã© gratuita para crianÃ§as atÃ© aos nove anos (inclusive), desde que acompanhadas por um adulto responsÃ¡vel e detentor de bilhete vÃ¡lido, e tudo indica que a Cidade do Rock vai viver uma verdadeira festa de famÃlias.

A grande novidade do espectÃ¡culo dos Xutos Ã© a junÃ§Ã£o Ã Big Band, (a orquestra de metais do Hot Club de Lisboa), recriando 21 temas clÃ¡ssicos do seu reportÃ³rio, num espectÃ¡culo Ãºnico. SÃ£o quase duas horas de concerto onde os Xutos e PontapÃ©s se fazem acompanhar por uma orquestra de 13 elementos de sopro, dirigida pelo Maestro Pedro Moreira (que tambÃ©m se encarregou dos arranjos), dando uma perspectiva completamente diferente dos concertos habituais.

Esta iniciativa inÃ©dita na carreira dos Xutos, Ã© mais uma vez uma pedra no charco, que mostra a capacidade que tÃªm de renovar, reinventar e surpreender os fÃ£s, numa simbiose perfeita entre orquestra e banda.

Os temas mais emblemÃ¡ticos e verdadeiros hinos aparecem com uma roupagem completamente diferente. O concerto abre com "NÃ£o Sou o Ãšnico" e termina com o incontornÃ¡vel "Contentores", num total de 21 temas interpretados pela banda de Tim, KalÃº, ZÃ© Pedro,Cabeleira e Gui. Os eternos hinos dos Xutos, "Homem do Leme","Circo de Feras", "A Minha Casinha", "Dia de S. Receber", "Remar Remar", "Ã� Minha Maneira", interpretados com a orquestra dÃ£o um toque Ãºnico e muito especial a estas canÃ§Ãµes.

The Tokio Hotel just to confirm its presence in the Rock in Rio-Lisbon. After being announced with one of the bands that make up the poster of Rock in Rio Madrid, the band revelation of 2007 has been requested by hundreds of fans who wanted to see them, too, in the City of Rock ports.

A German band will climb to the World Stage on June 1, the third day of the biggest festival of music.

This young quartet, with only three discs edited, - two in German ( "Schrei" of 2005 and "Zimmer 483," 2007) and one in English ( "Scream"), which is a compilation of the two albums but edited sung in English - has already won some of the most important awards for music and managed to reach the top of the sales charts in many countries.

To this day on June 1, Children's Day, entry is free for children up to nine years (inclusive), provided that accompanied by a responsible adult and holder of a ticket valid, and everything indicates that the City of Rock will live a true celebration of families.

Xutos e PontapÃ©s acertam date

The Xutos e PontapÃ©s will also act on June 1 with a big cast.

The great novelty of the show is the junction of Xutos the Big Band, (the orchestra of metals of the Hot Club of Lisbon), 21 recreating classic themes of his repertoire, in a single show. They are almost two hours of concert where Xutos e PontapÃ©s being accompanied by an orchestra of 13 pieces of breath, led by Maestro Pedro Moreira (who also was in charge of arrangements), giving a completely different perspective of the concert behavior.

This initiative unprecedented in the career of Xutos, it is once again a rock in the pond, which shows that they have the capacity to renew, reinvent and surprise the fans, a perfect symbiosis between orchestra and band.

The issues most emblematic and true anthems appear with a roupagem completely different. The concert opens with "I am not the One" and ends with the inevitable "Container", a total of 21 subjects interpreted by the band, Tim, KalÃº, ZÃ© Pedro, Cabeleira and Gui. The eternal anthems of Xutos, "Man of the rudder," "Circo, Feras", "My Casinha", "Day of St. Receive," "Remar Remar", "In the My Way," interpreted with the orchestra gave a touch unique and very special to these songs.

Note that in this day are also confirmed the actions of Joss Stone and Rod Stewart.
